Construction of a new sports pavilion is taking place at the recreation ground off South Road in Hythe, commissioned by Hythe Town Council. Work began in August 2009 and the estimated completion date is May 2010. According to the Kentish Express (4 February 2010), Cllr John Schoner said: "About 50 per cent of the money has come from the Football Foundation, with £150,000 from Shepway District Council, grants from the Roger De Haan Trust and the South East England Development Agency providing more than £100,000. The balance is coming from Hythe Town Council". The full project costs are estimated at nearly £1 million.  The pavilion will be used by football and cricket teams and will include a function room".
