A large and appreciative audience gathered at Deal Town Hall on Monday last week for a concert by Guildhall School of Music and Drama student Sian Robinson, accompanied by Stephen Matthews. Sian had devised an innovative programme of music written at or around the time of the Second World War as a showcase for her skills as oboist and cor anglais player.

Works by Hindemith and Haas were followed by themes from Richard Addinsell’s Warsaw Concerto, played by Stephen Matthews, who is Head of Academic Music at The King’s School Canterbury. Sian completed the recital with a sonata for oboe and piano by Henri Dutilleux and a piece written by Stephen called “The Spanish Oboe” which he rearranged specially for Sian to demonstrate her technical prowess.

Sian is a previous recipient of an RDHCT Creative Arts Bursary (see Creative Arts Bursary)
